“We can discriminate against you, but you’re not allowed to discriminate against us.”

While I agree with you on the distastefulness of that, I do wonder how much times have to change in order for a Contract In Perpetuity to be considered null and void. There are lots of icky parties I wouldn't want to have to deal with (like NAMBLA, the Communist Party of the USA, the Unification Church) but a perpetual contract with them would have to be honored.

Not to mention that using religion as a base for your argument is like playing the ace of spades during a chess match. Make sure everyone has agreed to use that rule...I once used the Weekly World News as a source for a paper I wrote. Although the story was properly cited and completely true, the teacher nearly failed me because of it. Same thing here.

On the other hand, religion isn't the point. The Boy Scouts, in my opinion, is an excellent organization. The work they do to take young boys and try to turn them into capable adults is more then needed in this day and age. Even if a lot of the badges the kids can earn are completely useless, they ARE teaching the kids to listen, to learn, to think. The last one is needed more then anything.

Except now, the council is teaching discrimination, bigotry, bias, elitism...not something I want my kids, should I ever have any, to learn. I have trouble with sexual discrimination. I don't really understand racial discrimination. But discrimination based on thoughts? On personal tastes?

Then it gets worse. They are teaching hypocrisy, asking to be excused from an anti-discriminatory ruling on the basis that the money could be better used to reach kids. Kids that are no longer welcome in the scouts due to discriminatotry rulings they themselves made, I wonder?

"We can discriminate against you, but you're not allowed to discriminate against us."

Me, I may be a jerk some times, but I have never been accused of being a hypocrite. There is your sin, Ids. Not adultry. Not homosexuality.

lds:

Sorry, wrong answer, consolation prize is to your right.

The BSA is not a Christian organization, but rather merely a *theistic* organization. They oppose atheism (except for Buddhism) but otherwise encourage tolerance among religions. If you don't believe me, just take a look at the religious emblems for their uniforms:

http://www.scouting.org/awards/religious/awards/index.html

Baha'i, Zoroastrianism, Unitarianism, Islam, Judaism, Meher Baba (huh?!?), Hinduism... hardly hallmarks of a "Christian organization."

oops..hit submit. Audultery is why homosexuality is a sin in the first place. God created the institution of marriage to be between one man and one woman. Sexual intercourse outside of that institution is a sin. As a Christian, however, I don't condemn the homosexual person, rather I condemn the sin. The sinner, I embrace with love--just as Christ embraced the sinners, publicans, and tax collectors (lower than sinners during His time).

Am I perfect? Absolutely not. I am simply a sinner, saved by the Grace of the Almighty God. We all sin--but as a Christian, I find myself sinning less and less because I consciously focus on NOT sinning.

The Boy Scouts of America are a Christian Organization. Homosexuality (the ACT, not the PERSON) is a sin, ergo by allowing practicing homosexuals as members or worse, as leaders, you're advocating sin in the life of a Christian. If you're a practicing homosexual, then you are not living a Christ-like life; you haven't repented from your sin. To repent means to confess and turn away from it. It doesn't mean that you don't have the desire--but if you act upon that desire--and that action can be a little as simple wanting to have sex with someone (see Matthew 5:27-29), then you have committed the sin of adultery.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. Life is for living ... not moaning about ... you seem to get on with it rather effectively. As for anti-authoritative, that's how Richard Branson was described when younger ... works for me!

If you're wearing a dark jacket, the red shirt should be OK with a dark tie to match/complement the jacket. Otherwise, I'd stick with the grey.

FWIW, in my experience, as an organization, the YMCA is more social than Christian. The woman that socked you might have been a Buddhist or Wiccan. Nobody would blink an eye either way.

Alas, not a one. Events kept transpiring that prevented me from getting my praxis taken. New plan is to transfer to accounting, so I may save up for a masters degree, which will lead to the ability to teach at a collegiate level.

Or maybe I'll just take 2 spanish classes, and get my liberal arts degree. I'm easy.

I've suggested that very same thing many a time, only to be told "We're a support unit". The most I can do is not ship something because we don't know about it...and we never check the old system any more. She had a weeks worth of orders in there she never received. Worst part? She never wondered why she had never received them...

And now she's called to tell me she had never been told about the new system.
