Time Passes…
Time has passed since you went away
Still, we think of you each passing dayWe wonder if you are near or far
Shining like some bright starOur wish is that you are free
Being what you want to beAll our love to you we send
Our search for you will never endStay well and safe Iambe
Here we go… Life, the Universe and Everything post-Iambe. It seems an appropriate day to launch this site. The wind is howling like a banshee outside and the snow is so thick you can barely see your hand in front of your face. Life as we know it is grinding to a halt. Today a storm, tomorrow a new beginning. Outside it looks like a giant hand is shaking the Etch-A-Sketch.
For some reason poetry seems to be the right thing for today. The following poem, “A Piece of the Storm,” is one that appears in Mark Strand’s collection that won the Pulitzer Prize, Blizzard of One.
From the shadow of domes in the city of domes,
A snowflake, a blizzard of one, weightless, entered your room
And made its way to the arm of the chair where you, looking up
From your book, saw it the moment it landed. That’s all
There was to it. No more than a solemn waking
To brevity, to the lifting and falling away of attention, swiftly,
A time between times, a flowerless funeral. No more than that
Except for the feeling that this piece of the storm,
Which turned into nothing before your eyes, would come back,
That someone years hence, sitting as you are now, might say:
“It’s time. The air is ready. The sky has an opening.”

What a mess this storm was! You know it’s bad when they give the Postal Service the day off. I feel really sorry for all the travelers that got stranded. Denver Intl. Airport is still closed and won’t resume operations until noon on Friday. I heard they canceled some 2,000 flights.
I stayed home today and mucked about the house a bit. I’ve gotten over that macho thing of “I can make it to work…just watch me”

I was supposed to fly out of Denver International yesterday. Luckily they cancelled my flight before I was supposed to try to get to the airport. I might get dug out tomorrow. The landlords do not have a contract with a snow plow company so my back parking lot has some lovely 5 ft drifts. I am supposed to fly out (again) on Christmas day. We will see what happens.
I think I will back up my computer between shoveling forays.

Computer Backup – now there’s a novel idea. I haven’t done that in years. I remember when I worked in an MIS group and that was one of the first questions you asked people when their computer wouldn’t boot up. I think we asked it more to see the terror-stricken look on their face than anything else.
Backup…yes, I may have to do that before the end ofthe year. I even have one of those snazzy DVD-RW drives that should make it tolerable.
Careful with the shoveling…I’ve got muscles I didn’t even know I owned this morning.

The emeregency rooms say they get a lot more injuries during snow storms…pulled muscles, all the way up to strokes and heart attacks. People shoveling.
Talked to my sister yesterday. She was wondering if one of her students got caught at the airport. I asked her if he was a troublemaker, and if so, he just missed it. He was, and he did.
Here in Virginia, I have the door open to the outside.

Oh I hurt, I dug out my car yesterday. That wouldnt be too bad by itself but I had to go a 100 ft to get to the car. I am sore today but I did not pull anything. I also had 3 friends, who also had cars parked next to mine, that helped. Aleve is my friend.
In theory I have another ticket out of Denver on Christmas day. I just bought another ticket. Frontier’s phone number is still busy. I guess I will fight with them later.

I am well. I have put the terrible year of 2006, and all it’s awefulness behind me and moved on. I will be back, and strong.
Drop me an email at my gmail and I would love to talk.
